Grilly Brothers Sextet Performing With The ETHS Orchestra

Recently we have written orchestrations of some of the original compositions (penned by our pianist, Jeff Kier) from our newly released CD, Goin' Places!," on the BluJazz Label.

These orchestrations, arranged by Mike Hartigan incorporate the "Concerto Grosso" form, but instead of a chamber group that would front an Orchestra or Jazz Big band, we have substituted our jazz sextet, which provides the dialogue with the Orchestra or Big Band. 

Each of our members have a strong  history in not only jazz, but in many genre’s, including classical. The Sextet includes: Dave Grilly - woodwinds, Lanny Grilly - drums,

Jeff Kier - piano, Nick Drozdoff - brass, Brian Sandstrom - bass, Scott Hirtenstein- percussion.

The overall idea is to work with the many Orchestras & Big Bands throughout the Miidwest who are looking for some alternative programming to reach a larger audience, and that will hopefully add to the orchestra’s classical following.  

We will be performing these scores with professional Orchestras,Big bands, Universities, and Youth groups in Chicago area and Midwest. Also, we are incorporating educational programs & clinics with the schools to acquaint the students with improvisation and jazz in general.

We are continually adding scores to our book and PDF's of the scores are available upon request.
