John Roothaan

Educator/Pianist  

Jazz pianist John Roothaan has appeared at jazz events worldwide,

including performances at the Chicago Jazz Fest, Montreaux Jazz Fest,

and the North Sea Jazz Fest. 

He regularly performs at Chicago-area venues such as,

the Signature Room in the Hancock Center and at the legendary Pump Room. 

John holds a Master of Music degree from Chicago Musical College

and a Doctor of Arts in Music from Ball State University in Indiana,

where he currently serves as professor of music composition and theory. 

In addition to operating his own record label Reigning Rooster Records.

John has contributed to many jazz recordings as producer, composer,

arranger, and accompanist, and is a member of ASCAP.

He recently founded the Chicago Jazz Commission,

an organization dedicated to promoting jazz performance and education.

 NEW! John just recently opened The Skokie School of Music, where he acts as Director & Instructor.

 

Dr. Yulia Lipmanovich - Educator/Pianist 

Dr. Yulia Lipmanovich is a Russian born pianist,and now is residing in Chicago.

While in Russia, she studied with Prof. Tatiana Nickolayevaat the 
Tchaickovsky Pre-Conservatory in Moscow. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree 
in Piano Performance from the Juilliard School of Music in New York,
 and received a Masters Degree from the Rubin Academy of Music
 of the Tel Aviv University.  Dr. Lipmanovich was awarded her Doctorate 
in Piano Performance at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1998.

She has won several International Competitions and was on the faculty of Boston College
 and Boston Conservatory teaching piano. Dr. Lipmanovich as appeared in major
concert halls, as a soloist, as well as with orchestras, in Russia, Israel, Western Europe,
and in the United States at many concert halls, including Carnegie Hall.

In Chicago, she has remained active as a performer, and has played on Radio & 
Television, played numerous solo and chamber music performances, and is often
invited to judge piano competions.

Presently, she is on the faculty at Richard J. Daley College, where she is  a
Professor of Music. She also is a Piano Consultant and Director of Music 
Education & Music Events at the American Music World Piano Company, as 
well as a private instructor working with students of all ages.

 


James Sanders - Violinist/Producer


Chicago based Jazz Violinist currently performs with Dee Alexander
 and The Evolution Ensemble, Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Orchestra,
 Gypsy Jazz group Swing Gitan, and Doug Lofstrom and New Quartet. 
 
James also leads his own  Latin Jazz band Conjunto.  Conjunto has 
performed at most of the top venues in Chicago including appearances
 at the Taste of Chicago, Andy’s Jazz Club,  Preston Bradley Hall, 
Checkerboard Lounge, The Hot House and concerts presented by
The Jazz Institute of Chicago. The band has released 2 CD’s that
 have received international recognition in the Latin Jazz community.

As a Jazz soloist he has recently appeared with the Chicago Sinfonietta 
at Orchestra Hall performing Dave Brubeck’s Triple Violin Concerto. 
In the past year he was also a soloist in The Violin FantasyFor Jazz Violin 
and Orchestra written by Doug Lofstrom. This recording has been released 
on the Emphasis Label. 

 In addition to his work as a Jazz Violinist, Sanders received a Masters degree
 in Violin performance from the Yale University School of Music in 1989 
and is a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra.
